Project and Program Assurance

Your need

Concerned about a project in your portfolio? Never attempted a project of this scale? Either way, it’s time to reassure the management team that the project is set up to succeed or to understand what needs to be done and take action.

Helmsman's approach

We don’t have a “one-size-fits-all” approach or a single “best practice”.

First we assess the inherent complexity of the project

This enables us to then determine the types of control and performance factors that should be in place - we create a bespoke baseline for each project.

We then compare the actual types of control and performance factors that are actually in place to identify any gaps with the baseline.

This approach can be used in three ways:

  • Pre-project Assessment: conducted at the start of a project to determine whether your team understands the challenges and assess whether you have the structure, processes and the people to deliver what’s required.
  • Mid-project Assessment: conducted during project execution to find and address any gaps.
  • End-project Assessment: conducted during project closure to capture lessons learned and sustainment risks.

Why Helmsman?

Our approach is fact-based, predictive and backed by rigorous research conducted by the Helmsman Institute. In the past two years it’s been used on some of the largest and most complex projects and programs both in Australia and overseas (see Success Stories for some examples).

Our people combine high level strategic and consultancy skills with in-depth project delivery experience. They have a relentless focus on outcomes and the ability to cut through noise to identify the critical issues.
